KENSINGTON - 1997
This is a log cabin using half-inch strips and a 9 patch (1.5 x 1.5") for the center block. A similar quilt made earlier in black and pink, was a wedding gift for Jim and Kelly Fitzpatrick. The groom's mother and I are both of English descent and have a great love of perennial gardens. I constructed the quilt using more than 60 floral fabrics (in pinks and blacks), and called it "Everyone Needs an English Garden". I decided I had to have one just like it and did a second quilt using yellow and black florals. It was to be named "Everyone Needs an English Garden II". But as I was machine quilting it, Princess Diana was killed and I decided to name it in her memory. Kensington was Diana's residence in London. |
| MESA - 1999
Chenilling and thread stitching make up this Southwest scene done while I was wintering in Arizona. Since my husband and I are now relocated to Arizona from the Boston area, its sub-title is "My New Back Yard"! |
| ORIGAMI STARS - 1999
Done with oriental fabrics, this block features a "folded" center reminiscent of origami. The star points are also folded triangles similar to "prairie points". The cream background, which is made up of numerous fabrics, is free-motion machine quilted. |
| WANDA - 1999
One of those patterns I couldn't resist while at Paducah in 1998, this fun quilt is machine appliqued and machine quilted with bats and spiders on the grey background. |
